Debbie Stabenow’s Office), Ashton Bortz (Congressman John Moolenaar’s Office) Caledonia Twp – As a part of today’s Annual Meeting of Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership (SEDP), a surprise announcement was made awarding the Great Lakes Family of Companies, made up of Great Lakes Fusion, Great Lakes Fabrication and Machining, Great Lakes Ready Mix, and Great Lakes Rental and Supply, Project of the Year. The Project of the Year serves to recognize a new or expanding business in Shiawassee County that creates a significant positive impact on the local economy. In the past year, the company has invested heavily in cleanup activities to remove thousands of abandoned and unusable concrete culverts left behind by a previous occupant of it’s property in Vernon Township. In addition, the Great Lakes Fabrication and Machining facility on site was heavily damaged in the tornadoes that struck the area in March. The company immediately made their intentions known, to rebuild the facility, larger and more modern. Through all of this activity, employment at the companies has continued to grow. “The Great Lakes Family of Companies is a great success story in Shiawassee County,” said SEDP President and CEO Justin Horvath. “Their efforts have demonstrated a great tenacity and a commitment to our community, making it an honor to present them with our Project of the Year.”
