In WalletHub’s 2023 survey which collected and evaluated data including cost and quality, Lansing Community College ranked in the nation’s top 12%.  And the College is a value that offers variety: 230 associate degree and certificate programs, allowing students to choose from more than 1,100 courses in each academic year.

University Research Corridor (URC): Initiating, powering and realizing innovation at scale.

An alliance between Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and Wayne State University, the University Research Corridor (URC) has been called Michigan’s equivalent of Silicon Valley—a claim borne out by the fact that over the past five years URC universities have announced an average of one new invention every day, inventions which have led to more than 500 license agreements for technologies. Together, the URC institutions draw more than $1.8 billion in federal academic research dollars to Michigan.

Routinely ranked at the top of U.S. public colleges, this powerhouse, classified as R1 “very high research activity” enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate and 18,000 graduate students in 19 colleges offering degrees in some 250 disciplines. Strategic collaborations between the College of Engineering and other of the University’s colleges and centers—such as business, entrepreneurship and arts and sciences—have created richer knowledge and skills, driving UM’s leadership in manufacturing research and education.

Classified as an R1 “very high research activity” institution, MSU was founded as agricultural college and continues to serve that mission, while adding critical learning opportunities including the College of Engineering’s new Residential Experience for Spartan Engineering, offering freshman engineering students a strategic overview of the field combined with hands-on experience.

Founded more than 150 years ago as Detroit Medical College, this R1 university is now one of the 50 largest public universities in the U.S., offering nearly 350 degrees and certifications through 13 schools and colleges. Sitting in the heart of Detroit, the university offers both students and visitors access to vibrant cultural and arts attractions just steps away.

Classified as an R2 “high research activity” institution, Eastern Michigan University offers more than 200 majors and minors for undergraduates and more than 170 graduate programs across six academic divisions. The GameAbove College of Engineering and Technology offers a comprehensive range of learning experiences ranging from aviation and autonomous vehicles to drone technology to cyber security to construction management and more.

Founded in 1919 as The School of Automotive Trades, this private university pioneered novel manufacturing courses and continues to adhere to its guiding practical co-op model, requiring students to complete at least five co-op terms for graduation—a requirement made easier by Kettering’s more than 550 corporate partnerships. Students can earn undergraduate and master’s degrees in STEM and business fields.
